This training will empower lawyers seeking to participate in Pro Bono Ontario’s Education Law Project by providing an overview of special education and safe schools legislation. Learn how to advocate on behalf of children and youth who need help ensuring their legal rights in special education, discipline, enrollment and school safety.

Project Details

Pro Bono Ontario’s Education Law Project provides free legal help for caregivers whose children face challenges to their rights in school related to accommodating special needs/disabilities; unfair expulsions, suspensions, exclusions, and transfers; being denied the right to attend school; and bulling/harassment. Volunteers help to:

  • Provide information and advice for caregivers
  • Represent students in their dealings with school administrators
  • Represent students at tribunals or hearings

Participation Requirements

Registration for this CPD, and the Education Law Project, is only for lawyers licensed to practice in Ontario.
By signing up for this CPD, you are joining Pro Bono Ontario’s Education Law Project. Volunteers are expected to take on at least one matter per year through the project.
